Handling is sharp in that the steering is better weighted. Toyota has turned Corolla into a bit of a boy racer. The Corolla maintains good ride quality and keeps occupants isolated from all but the nastiest of potholes and dips in the road.
With the automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT), the injected DOHC four-cylinder petrol engine accelerates the car from 0-100km/h in 10 seconds flat. The CVT auto gearbox also contributes to the cars ‘low’ fuel economy rating of 6.6L/100km.
Plenty of room in the back and the adjustment for the driver’s seat has enough movement to make the tallest of people comfortable in this car, and in addition, the steering wheel tilt/reach is adjustable so you don’t knock your knees.
Boot space is great at 280 litres and the hatchback tailgate is slightly wider making it easy to rapidly cram things in. The split-folding rear seats liberate an extra 840 litres of cargo space (1120 litres in total) which is helpful.
